Take essential Aotearoa bands and handpicked internationals that run the musical spectrum, transport them to picture-perfect summer destinations like Coroglen, Mt Maunganui, Matakana and Riwaka, and you’ve got The Summer Tours, a live music operation dedicated to delivering you to the heart of New Zealand’s celebrated summer tour circuit.
For over a decade The Summer Tours has turned up the volume on summer with the country’s hottest tickets, remodelling unused sections and empty carparks into vital venues and festival sites. Then they’ve brought Kiwi music favourites like Fat Freddy’s Drop, Katchafire and Shapeshifter to these pop-up locales, serving up fresh summer sounds in picture-perfect coastal towns and must-see holiday spots. Just like Aotearoa’s golden weather, these short-lived live music havens don’t stick around for long, adding to the very special nature of The Summer Tours perfectly-formed summer circuit.
For the 2013/2014 season, The Summer Tours turns up the volume once again with cross-country runs from Shapeshifter, Fat Freddy’s Drop, and Guy Sebastian, and doubles the playing powers of Katchafire and Kora on their co-headlining North Island tour. And, in another historic doubleheader, The Summer Tours reunites homegrown heavyweights Shapeshifter and Fat Freddy’s Drop at the inaugural Matakanaval festival at the Matakana Country Park, the first time these Kiwi music giants have shared a stage in six years.
New Zealand is the proud owner of a touring circuit unrivalled by beauty or bands anywhere else in the world. Let The Summer Tours take you there with a crucial calendar of rock, reggae, funk and soul that joins the dots between our high-season hotspots.
