Mike West in the Morning
with Gareth Pringle and Annabel Crawford
Hi I'm Mike West. I'm an expert at getting up at 4.15am! I almost don't even need an alarm clock anymore...
I grew up in Palmerston North. I'm married to Amanda and we have 2 boys, Jason and Sam.
Jason is 21 and working for MORE FM as Promotions Manager. Sam is 16 and going to Boys High but wants to get into radio ASAP.
I love golf, good food, going on holiday and I love work and that's the weird thing. Work is so much fun for me.
Does that make me crazy?
Some cats are just plain weird....
Mike lost a game of operation and had to do a lap of the Square in only a surgical gown.
Check out the photo's below....
Check out one of the Miss Manawatu contestants who does Fire Breathing as a hobbie...
The is best basket ever shot from a plane!
I thought this was cool. How to make a plane in 2 minutes!
How to make your own volcano ( from 3 News website).
How to build the Volcano:
6 cups flour
2 cups salt
4 tablespoons cooking oil
2 cups water
small plastic bottle
old baking panCombine dry ingredients. Add liquids and mix until smooth and firm
(add more water if needed). Stand the plastic bottle in the pan and
shape the mixture into a volcano cone around the bottle. Make sure
you leave the opening clear. How to make the volcano explode:
4 tablespoons baking soda
5-ish drops dishwashing detergent
½ cup warm water
a few drops of food colouring of your choice
½ cup of vinegarPut baking soda into the bottle, which by now should be hard (use a
funnel to make it easier). Add dishwashing detergent, water and food
colouring.
Slowly add the vinegar and stand back and watch the eruption.
Amanda's delicious Museli. (granola recipe)
3 Cups (300gms) old fashioned rolled oats (not instant)
¾ cup (75 gms) sliced or silvered almonds
½ cup (45gms) raw sunflower seeds
½ cup (45gms) raw pumpkin seeds
½ tablespoon (5gms) wheat germ (optional)
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons canola oil or 2 tablespoons (28gms) unsalted butter, melted
½ cup (120ml) pure maple syrup 1 cup dried fruits (cranberries, apricots, dates, figs, raisins)
Preheat oven to 165 degrees and place rack in the centre of the oven. Either butter or line a baking sheet with baking paper.
In a large bowl combine the rolled oats, nuts, seeds, wheat germ, ground cinnamon and salt.
In a small bowl, stir together the oil (or melted butter) and maple syrup. Pour the mixture over the dry ingredients and toss together, making sure all the dry ingredients are coated with the liquid. Spread onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for about 30-45 minutes or until golden brown. (The browner the granola gets (without burning) he crunchier the granola will be).
Place on a wire rack to cool. You will notice that the granola may still be sticky when it is removed from the oven but it will become crisp and dry as it cools Make sure to break up any large clumps of granola while the mixture is still warm. Once the granola has completely cooled, store in an airtight container or plastic bag in the refrigerator. It will keep for several weeks.
Makes about 5 cups.
Enjoy!

What on earth is this cat looking at?
An old DJ friend of mine just sent me this photo from my first job in radio which
was at a radio station in Wellington.
From top left, Randy Trom, David Jones, Phil O'Brien, me (Mike West), and bottom
from left to right is Chris Smith, David Bond and John Barry.

Jason just called in to see me and show me what his ankle looks like after he
rolled it playing netball.

This video has a goat called Darren, that waves at children. No kidding. Check it out!
