It’s been more than 30 years since ‘The Karate Kid’ first made his appearance on the movie screen, but now two of the original stars are set to reunite for a new TV series.

Called ‘Cobra Kai’, the new TV series will see the original stars Ralph Macchio (who played the iconic Daniel LaRusso) and William Zabka, (his nemesis Johnny Lawrence) reprise their roles.

The 10-episode comedy series will be on YouTube Red in 2018, following what was described by Hollywood Reporter as a "competitive" bidding war between the streaming services.

The series, set 30 years since the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, finds a down-and-out Johnny reopening the infamous Cobra Kai dojo, which reignites his feud with the now-successful Daniel LaRusso.

"If The Karate Kid was Daniel’s story, Cobra Kai is equal parts Daniel and Johnny’s story," YouTube global head of originals Susanne Daniels told THR.

"Also because this is a series and not a movie, we really wanted to reimagine how the story was told. Changing the name made sense as part of that."
