A mum's open letter to people who have shamed her for breastfeeding her child has gone viral. The woman shared her message on the Facebook page 'Breastfeeding Mama Talk' which has close to 1 million followers...
"The WHO recommends breastfeeding until the age of two or beyond. Which means according to the World Health Organization there is no cut off age in which a child should be weaned. I will listen to that recommendation, what my child wants, and my heart before someones uneducated opinion on the matter.
Breastfeeding isn't just about the milk and it's just like anything a child may grow attached to such as a binky, blanket, or stuffed animal. I will breastfeed my child until he no longer needs me to. I'm his comfort, security, nourishment, and more. Why the rush to rip away something that is so good and beneficial that I'm willing to keep giving for however long he wants me to?
While my child receives most of his nutrients from solid food that doesn't mean he isn't still receiving the many benefits of breastmilk. Breastmilk continues to provide nourishment that cannot be bought at the store. Breastmilk is natures best vitamin and medicine.
If any of the above reasons are too complicated for you to understand how about this, this is my body, my child, my boobs, so no one gets to decide when my child is too old to breastfeed, but me and my child."
Her post has been shared hundreds of times online, with many other mums showing their support.
