The Kmart craze is heading further south after it was officially announced that a 5300sqm Kmart store in Invercargill is expected to open late next year.
"Kmart has been waiting for a suitable site in Invercargill and found the right location with South Auckland retail property investment and development company Windermere Holdings Limited," Kmart New Zealand manager Jason Picard said to NZME.
The department store would be situated by l9Forth, Clyde and Wood Sts in Invercargill, with the construction programme already under way.
Along with 147 undercover car parks and 40 further car parks on the street, the new building will also invite 8 small stores to operate alongside it.
The project will bring 100 new jobs to the area, as well as their cute Kmart furnishings.
Invercargill mayor Tim Shadbolt said it was fantastic news for the city, meaning Invers people will no longer need to travel to Dunedin to shop at their Kmart.
