Many Kiwis can expect a hot and muggy weekend ahead.
Saturday will be warm and dry but a front moving up the country could bring rain to some regions.
"We can expect warm, dry conditions in the east of the North Island on Saturday, with temperatures rising to the high twenties or early thirties," MetService meteorologist Andy Best says.
Auckland is expected to have a day of fine spells and a high of 26C, with similar but even warmer conditions in Tauranga forecast to hit 28C and Whangarei on 29C.
Rotorua and Taupō can also expect hot weather with a chance of showers later on Saturday.
"Expect another warm day in the east of the South Island on Saturday, thanks to the effect of the Foehn wind, with some areas seeing temperatures into the 30s," Mr Best says.
Later on Saturday, a front brings rain, with heavy falls in the west of the South Island and scattered rain and northwest gales in the south of the South Island, and for the Canterbury High Country, just high cloud elsewhere.
