Parts of New Zealand set to hit 30 degrees as warm weather arrives

NZ 01/11/2019

Time to dust off the jandals, get the fans out from storage and slather yourself in sunscreen because New Zealand is about to get a great taste of summer!

This weekend is set to be a hot one for most of the country thanks to the typical unsettled spring weather moving away.

Temperatures could climb into the late 20s for eastern and inland areas, while some places in Marlborough and Canterbury could even reach 30C on Sunday, national forecaster MetService says.

Rise in temperatures are a result of a "large high" developing in the Tasman Sea, bringing a fine weekend to much of the country.

Christchurch is expected to hit 30C on Sunday, while Dunedin will be 24C. Further north, Auckland will be 20C and Wellington 21C.

Forecaster WeatherWatch agrees with MetService's predictions, saying the South Island appears to be the hottest.
