This story contains minor spoilers for Netflix's After Life

Ricky Gervais' 'After Life' series on Netflix has been a huge success, with the second season being released just a few weeks ago.

Many invested fans of the series have come up with a bit of theory about the true nature of one of the show's characters. Ricky's character Tony often meets up with a character named Anne (picture drinking wine with Gervais below) to chat about his life and dealing with grief.

The pair are relative strangers and considering the pair meet in a graveyard to talk, many people are speculating that Anne is in fact a ghost!

In a recent livestream with his fans, Ricky responded to the idea...

"No, she's not. I love that conspiracy theory and it could happen." he began.

"Not in one of my things. That would be odd, if I suddenly – unless I did an actual fantasy thing where there were ghosts and angels, which I might one day."

"She's real. She's there to show that the kindness of strangers can save a life, really, and that we all need an Anne in our life."

"That slightly older, wiser person with nothing to gain other than just showing empathy and honesty," he continued.

"It was that really, it was just the straightforward, didn't have to think about it, being nice to someone."

The good news is that this story is far from over. Ricky has previously said he'd love to keep the story going with more seasons...

"I'd love to do a season three, it looks like it's going to go down a storm," he told fans. "So, if this reaction carries on then yes."
