The 2019 live-action remake of 'The Lion King' was a huge success - so much so that Disney have plans for a sequel!
Barry Jenkins is set to direct with filming hopefully getting underway next year.
It is also sounding like the sequel will take on its own story, rather than that of the cartoon counterparts.
Deadline reports that the "story will further explore the mythology of the characters, including Mufasa’s origin story. Moving the story forward while looking back..."
Jenkins has directed the films Moonlight, If Beale Street Could Talk, and the Netflix show Dear White People in the past.
"Helping my sister raise two young boys during the ’90s, I grew up with these characters," Jenkins said.
"Having the opportunity to work with Disney on expanding this magnificent tale of friendship, love and legacy while furthering my work chronicling the lives and souls of folk within the African diaspora is a dream come true."
We'll have to wait and see which cast memebers return, but we're looking forward to this one!
