2020 may not have been the best year for most of us - but it could be the year for Grey's Anatomy fans!

A theory that has started from the website IMDB has gotten fans flustered at the thought that multiple loved characters are returning to the show, even if it is for a guest appearance.

Grey's fans were caught by surprised after Patrick Dempsey, who played Meredith Grey's main love interest on the show, was revealed to be returning as the handsome McDreamy Derek Shepherd five years after his character's death. Now fans have found a detail that could show season 1 characters Christina Yang, George O'Malley and Izzie Stevens making an appearance too.

Film and TV website IMDB has listed their actors, Sandra Oh, T.R. Knight and Katherine Heigl respectively, as active roles on the show from 2005 to 2020 - a new amendment noted at the same time Patrick Dempsey's actor credits were updated for his Season 17 appearance.

And while there hasn't been an episode named to their appearances, it seems like Meredith could be meeting a lot of old friends on the beach while in her COVID-19 coma this season.

In an interview with Deadline, showrunner Krista Vernoff was asked if Meredith's mother Ellis (played by Kate Burton and who was originally named in the script to keep Dempsey a surprise) could show up on the beach eventually.

But she playfully said: "I don't know. I don't know. You have to tune in and see who comes to the beach. It'll be a joyful discovery."

Sounds like there could be something to this theory!
