Ten things we learned from the 'Friends' Reunion

Didn't get the chance to watch the Friends reunion episode on TV last night? Don't worry, we've got all the highlights for you so you don't miss out on the watercooler chats.

Courteney Cox hid her lines across the set

The actress who played Monica would write her lines or hide her script amongst the set - including writing it across the kitchen table.

“I saw it and asked and she said, ‘Mind your business’!” Matt LeBlanc revealed. “So she had this big speech she had been struggling with and before we shot, I erased it all!”

“Why would you erase it!?” laughs Courtney. “So much of my dialogue was in these apples,” she adds, handling the fruit bowl.

Lisa Kudrow said she also found a script in the sink - turns out that was Courteney's too!

There was difficulty getting the final six actors to sign for the show

Ross was written with David Schwimmer in mind, but the creators weren't aware that David had quit TV. So they begged and sent gift baskets to him in order to convince him.

Matthew Perry and Jennifer Aniston were also committed to other shows. When Jennifer asked to be released, that show's producer told her Friends would “never make her a star”.

Fake Joey was almost the real Joey

Matt LeBlanc was competing with another actor for the role of Joey, that one of the creators said: "went down to the wire".

Of course, the role of Joey went to Matt, but the other Joey wasn't left out of Friends.

"The funny thing about it is the other actor ended up in the show, in The One With Unagi. Playing Fake Joey, ironically."

David Schwimmer did not get along with Marcel
David was not shy declaring Marcel the monkey (Ross’s beloved pet on the show) was the worst thing about working on Friends.

“We would develop our bits and then the monkey would mess up the timing and we had to do it all over again.”

“Then it would sit on my shoulder and the trainer would give him live grubs to eat. Then I had monkey grubby hands all over me.”

The Friends fandom made Chandler and Monica a 'thing'

Show creators Crane and Kauffman revealed that when they shot Friends in London, they had decided that Monica and Chandler would be a one-night stand. But after the fans “went insane” at the scene of them in bed together, they realised they would have to make more of it.

“We realised there was more to this and we needed to pay attention to the audience. We realised ‘this could be a thing’.”

Matthew Perry hated filming in front of the live studio audience
While the rest of the cast loved the energy of the studio audience, Matthew Perry revealed it caused him a lot of anxiety.

“I felt like I was going to die if they didn’t laugh. It’s not healthy, but if I said a line and they didn’t laugh, I’d sweat and go into convulsions. I’d freak out. I felt like that every single night.”

There are episodes the cast haven't seen themselves

"There are seasons I've never seen," Lisa Kudrow. "Michel [Stern, her husband] and I started watching some of season four, which I thought I had watched. He enjoys them more than I do, because I'm mortified with myself."

David Schwimmerhadn’t watched in 17 years, but has recently started watching again with his daughter. “It sucked me in,” he said.

Meanwhile Matt LeBlanc and Courteney Cox believe they've seen every episode.

They probably won't ever reprise their roles

Lisa Kudrow tells James Corden, "I once heard Marta and David say, and I completely agree, that they ended the show very nicely, everyone's lives are very nice, and they would have to unravel all those good things in order for there to be stories. And I don't want anyone's happy ending unravelled. Also, at my age, to be 'floopy'? Stop. You have to grow up."

The cast have an idea where their characters would be today

Jennifer thinks Rachel and Ross would be married with kids, while Ross would still be “playing with bones”.

Courteney reckoned Monica would still be competitive, in charge of the school bake sale and probably on the PTA, while Chandler would make her laugh every day.

Lisa said Phoebe would be married to Mike and advocating for all the kids who are a little different, through art and music.

And Joey will most likely be running a sandwich shop.

Does the cast know what Chandler's job was?

To this day - they still have no idea!
