Warning this article contains major spoilers for The Handmaid's Tale season 4.

After weeks of build-up, June finally has her revenge in the season 4 finale of The Handmaid's Tale.

Teaming up with her fellow former Handmaid's, the women brutally put an end to series villian Fred Waterford.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the creator of the show shared how the scene came about.

"We’ve always spoken about what the endgame is for the character, so we had spoken about it a few times." showrunner Bruce Miller said.

"I think we sat down and had the conversation about what was going to happen this season even before the pandemic began and before we began filming before the shutdown. We talked about it then and I let Joe *who plays Fred* know exactly what I was planning. You don’t want anything like this to be a surprise. Also, the character dying doesn’t mean Joe stops coming and being part of the cast. We do have quite a heavy flashback show."

He then went on to say that their is a chance the character may return in various flashback scenes.

"I think the stories of Serena and Fred that we haven’t seen before, even in early Gilead, are fascinating... I would never take anything like that off the table."

Season 5 of the show has been confirmed, but we're still not sure if it'll be the last... Turns out neither is Bruce!

"I don’t want to stretch it out. But there were things we all wanted to do in season four and we couldn’t get one tenth of them done. You don’t want to jump over all this interesting stuff."

"I try to follow my curiosity as a fan of the show and the book. And I’m in no rush to end it."

So sounds like fans will be able to enjoy the show for a few more years yet!

All 4 seasons of The Handmaid's Tale are available to stream on Neon.
