Taika Waititi rips his earpiece out mid-interview to dodge Rita Ora wedding question

Taika hilariously tackled the Hollywood moment Kiwi style!

Taika Waititi abruptly ended an interview with This Morning's Phillip Schofield after he asked him a question about his relationship with singer Rita Ora.

Taika was joined by Chris Evans, to promote the new film 'Lightyear', but Phillip couldn't help but ask if there were "wedding bells" on the way for Taika and Rita.

When Philip brought up the rumoured engagement, the Kiwi director suddenly refused to speak and ended the interview - in true Taika style.

"Well, we've congratulated Chris on his birthday... so Taika, are there wedding bells?" Phillip said near the end of the conversation.

Taika jokingly responded: "You can congratulate me! It's in August! Let's talk about my birthday!"

Then he took out his earpiece and tossed it over his shoulder.

Philip then quickly ended the chat, saying, "regardless, she's gorgeous, we love her here, she's always a great guest, and congratulations!"

Fans weren’t impressed with the TV host's nosey line of questioning but they loved how Taika handled himself.

One fan took to Twitter, writing: “Taika Waititi learning how to be a Hollywood star and shutting down an interview Kiwi style is the best thing I’ve seen all week.”

Another wrote: “I love the utter chaos brought to any interview by Taika Waititi."

“Excellent way to finish an interview when the questions get too nosey!"

"Nice one,” a third applauded the director.

This follows reports in the Daily Mail last week that Waititi and Ora are engaged and planning a "low-key, intimate ceremony".

Key word being low-key…

A friend of the pair told the Sun: "This isn't about them doing a big showy thing and crowing about it beforehand. It's just about them being in love and deciding the time is right to formalise their relationship. They couldn't be happier.”

Honestly, respect to Taika for remaining the humble and authentic Kiwi bloke we all know and love!
