The Block NZ: Redemption has given fan-favourite teams a second chance at winning the reality TV show competition, as well as the chance to avoid making some serious mistakes.
One mistake that Orange Team's Quinn & Ben will not make in season ten is the play to 'strategic vote' in team judging.
Team judging is often where the Block teams view the hard work their peers have put in, and a chance to pocket an extra $2,000 cash towards their renovations if the fellow teams score their room the highest.
But in this week's Team Judging of family bathrooms, one team wanted to ensure winners Chloe & Ben would not secure more money for their perfectly scored bathroom, by strategically voting them 0 points out of 10.
Host Mark Richardson called the strategic '0' the start of "playing the game". However, married couple Quinn & Ben revealed they refuse to take on that "energy," explaining they received extreme public backlash for making that decision eight years ago.
"The last season of The Block that we were on, we strategically voted once, and we're never doing it again," Ben explains. "We were in a position where we pretty much had to do strategic voting in order to get our house finished."
"Quinn wasn't allowed to paint. She was pregnant, she wasn't allowed up on the scaffold to do that sort of thing. So I was going to have to paint this... 300 square metre house by myself."
So while the couple strategically voted during Dinner Wars to earn some much-needed cash, Ben remembers clearly "the backlash was just crazy."
"It was so full on," Quinn agreed.
The couple only won $10,000 from the sale of their renovated property during season 3, and were gifted $30,000 from season winners Alex & Corban. Since their season three appearance on The Block NZ, the couple and their two kids have renovated seven homes around the Christchurch area.
