With Anzac Day upon us, what better time to take a moment to reflect and pay a tribute to the servicemen and women who defended our country for our freedom

Radio announcer and Celebrity Treasure Island contestant Lana Searle talked about a fantastic online webpage to find information about your family member's war history and more, in a recent post on social media.

"I actually stumbled across this a few years ago and found it really really interesting and quite helpful for any ancestry research and family trees and stuff," Lana said in her video.

"So, here's the deal: The Auckland War Museum has an Online Cenotaph" she added.

The Auckland War Museum's Online Cenotaph is a living memorial to those who served Aotearoa New Zealand on active service during times of international conflict.

You can find this for free by going to the Auckland War Museum's website, clicking on 'Paenga Hira' or 'War Memorial', and selecting 'Online Cenotaph'.

Enter the full name of the soldier or their service number. You can further filter by selecting a specific war campaign they were involved in.

The website then provides information on that person including their war records.

It also shows you the location of where their roll of honour is or their memorial.

If you're looking to educate your friends, family, or even yourself or the youngsters at home then, this is a really good thing to do with Anzac Day coming up too.
