Hollywood actor Ben Stiller has opened up about his private with cancer, in hopes it will help raise awareness about getting tested.
The 50-year-old 'Zoolander' actor revealed in a radio interview he was diagnosed with prostate cancer two years ago and confessed he battled with the disease in private.
"It came out of the blue for me. I had no idea," Ben explained to Howard Stern. "At first, I didn't know what was gonna happen. I was scared."
“It just stopped everything in your life because you can't plan for a movie because you don't know what's gonna happen."
Ben, who shares two kids with wife and actress Christine Taylor, said he decided to go public with his cancer battle to raise awareness of getting prostate cancer checks.
A simple blood test to screen for the PSA antigen associated with prostate cancer is what he credits with saving his life.
"It's the second most deadly cancer, but it's about one of the most curable."
The actor decided to have surgery to remove his prostate and now takes a PSA test every six months to make sure he is clear of the disease.
