Nothing quite beats a professional massage, but a new study shows that receiving a massage from your partner will give you the same (if not more) health benefits.
Sayuri Naruse and Dr Mark Moss from Northumbria University found that when untrained people gave their partners a massage it improved their physical and emotional wellbeing.
“The benefits of receiving a massage from a professional are well documented,” the researchers said. “But this research shows how a similar outcome can be obtained by couples with little prior training and experience of the activity.”
The benefits included a decrease in stress, helping with coping abilities and also improved the overall strength of the relationship.
