For a lot of people, trying to be a better person is something of a daily task. But according to a recent study, reading regularly could make you a kinder and more empathetic person.
The study from Kingston University in London, found that readers were more likely to act in a more socially acceptable manner, be accepting of other peoples views and were far more friendly than those who spent more time watching TV.
It also showed that people who read fiction books showed more positive social behaviour while drama and romance readers were more empathetic.
“Exposure to fiction relates to a range of empathetic abilities,” researchers said.
“Engaging with fictional prose and comedy in particular could be key to enhancing people’s empathetic abilities.”
So it turns out what we read has a real effect on our personality!
