We all have our own breakfast habits, but the world’s oldest family
(the Donnelly's) with a combined age of 1075 years, say the key to their long life is porridge!
‘We’ve always followed Daddy’s habit of a nice warm bite before sleep,’ says 72-year-old Joe Donnelly.
‘Porridge at around 10pm, then again for breakfast at 7am. Cooked oats, milk, a spot of apple jam on top.’
‘Our diet has never been from processed or polluted foods,’ says Joe.
‘We worked with nature, everything eaten was either grown or reared by us.’
The family made up of 16 siblings (3 have now passed on), grew up on a farm and don't really drink alcohol - something which they also attribute to their long lives.
Porridge is believed to have great health prospects, including lowering blood pressure, lowering cholesterol and combating diabetes.
So mixing up your breakfast choices might have a long term pay off!
