The friends who may sometimes come across as 'mean' or 'too honest' are actually the ones who want the best for you, according to a recent study.
The study examined a group of people and found that some friends and family often used negative emotions on an individual in hopes of making a positive impact for them in the long term.
“We identified several everyday examples where this might be the case — for instance, inducing fear of failure in a loved one who is procrastinating instead of studying for an exam.” the study said.
“These findings shed light on social dynamics, helping us to understand, for instance, why we sometimes may try to make our loved ones feel bad if we perceive this emotion to be useful to achieve a goal.”
So next time your 'mean' or 'honest' friend says something that grinds you a bit, just remember that deep down they're just trying to do the best for you.
