Are you a plain and basics sock wearer? Or do you love to keep your toes covered in stripes, patterns and wacky colours?
If you’re the latter, then science has some great and interesting facts for you!
A study published in the Journal of Consumer Research saw that people who chose to wear wacky, unusual socks were seen by others as having a “higher status and a sense of competency” because they were seen as deliberately bold or confident.
“We proposed that, under certain conditions, non-conforming behaviours can be more beneficial to someone than simply trying to fit in” said research authors Silvia Bellezza, Francesca Gino and Anat Keinan.
Another study from Northwestern University says the person wearing crazy socks can benefit mentally, as it can help our own confidence levels and ability to express ourselves.
Just the appearance of bold socks may help us feel braver and more willing to embrace risks, while those who are after plain black socks could be seen as reclusive.
So if you’re looking for a way to tackle a tough task at work, start with a good pair of socks!
