Dogs obey women more than they do men says study

A recently published study by the Royal Society of Open Science has discovered some interesting things about our relationships to dogs.

The study found that dogs obey women more than they do men and there's a pretty interesting reason why. Essentially dogs recognise female speech patterns and tones more than they do men

"Our recent fMRI studies suggest that dogs and humans use similar brain areas and probably similar processes to assess others' emotions from vocalizations." the study says.

"It seems that there are biologically rooted rules to how mammalian vocalizations encode emotions and these shared processes help humans to assess the emotional load of not just dogs but other mammal species' vocal emotion expressions."

"This is a common pattern in emotion recognition studies. Women are likely more empathic and sensitive to others' emotions and this helps them to better associate the contexts with the emotional content of the growls."

So all of this basically means that the empathetic tone that women generally have resonates much stronger with dogs than a man's harsher tones and pitch.

The study also found the 63% of humans could correctly identify the cause of a dogs growl or bark.
