A woman has sparked much debate online over whether or not she should get her 4 year old's ears pierced.
"My 4 year old daughter wants her ears pierced, she's pretty articulate for her age so knows it will hurt, she has clip ons but wants real ones." she wrote on Mumsnet.
"Her dad is saying no not until she is much older, he sees her once a fortnight and school holidays but is involved."
She went on to add that her ex-husband previously had no issue with it but now seems to be dead against it.
"She has been going on regularly for a year and if she wants them I don’t see the problem, it’s a pair of ear studs not a nose ring.
I’d like to take her in the summer holidays when she is 5 but he says no."
People were quick to jump in with their views...
"Sounds like a power thing to me to be honest, just let your daughter have them done if it’ll make her happy." one wrote.
"Just get them done, when he sees his daughter happy is he going to be the one to take them out?"
But not everyone was so keen on the idea...
"I think doing that to such small children is horrible, so I agree with him that you shouldn't. But then he's being pretty hypocritical isn't he?"
"Opinions change. He’s entitled to that. You both need to be in agreement on body modification." someone else added.
Which side of the argument are you on?
