Great news for cheese lovers - eating lots of the dairy product might not be as bad for us as we first thought!
A study from The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition claims that eating large amounts of cheese may not be as damaging to our hearts as we first thought.
The study took place over 22 years and monitored the health of people over 65 who ate a lot of cheese. The results showed that out of the 2500 deaths that occurred during the study, only 800 were related to issues with the heart.
"Our findings not only support, but also significantly strengthen, the growing body of evidence which suggests that dairy fat, contrary to popular belief, does not increase risk of heart disease or overall mortality in older adults," said one of the researchers.
"In addition to not contributing to death, the results suggest that one fatty acid present in dairy may lower risk of death from cardiovascular disease, particularly from stroke."
So if you've got a taste for cheese, raise a slice to that!
