After losing his hearing six months prior from to meningitis, the day that Hayward Duresseau got his hearing back was a special day for more than one reason.
After meeting at a Mardi Gras celebration in 2015, when Hayward met Kerry they both knew that they had met 'the one'. Three years into their relationship however, their lives hit a massive speed bump when Hayward contracted bacterial meningococcal meningitis.
His vision and hearing deteriorated, he relied on Kerry and his family for help with walking and bathing and it took a toll on both in the relationship as Hayward fought the life threatening disease.
Six months after his diagnosis, Hayward's doctors deemed him healthy enough to undergo cochlear implant surgery to combat his hearing loss. After the successful surgery, the first thing Duresseau heard was Kennedy's marriage proposal.
It's been kind of a long journey to get to this point, but I'm glad that we were able to do it together. I want to keep doing these things with you and helping you as much as I can because I know you help me," Kennedy said.
So… will you marry me?
