On the day of your wedding, a lot of the advice that has been shared with you goes out the window and you end up just winging it and living in the moment. Which is awesome!

But leading up to the big ceremony can be daunting and stressful. So many questions run through your head and you just want it to go as smoothly as possible - so almost any tips and tricks are welcome!

One bride shared some of her unusual yet super handy tips for when it comes to the big day.

"Flowers to your fanny"

This literally means hold your bouquet at the level of your nether region. This ensures that your shoulders will be at a more natural position and not hunched over. The flowers also won't overshadow your dress.

"Make sure you get a second shirt for the groom"

This one makes a lot of sense and something a lot of couples would overlook. Underneath the heavy suits, it's only natural for the groom to get sweaty, so it's nice for them to have a backup to change into later when the suit jacket comes off.

"Have a shot of whiskey in the morning, not a pint"

Whiskey will help to calm the nerves but won't make you need to go to the toilet as much as a pint would.

"Check the groom's shoes"

This advice is twofold. Firstly, you need to make sure that the tags have been removed from the bottom of the shoes. There's a lot of kneeling involved in wedding ceremonies and so an ugly price tag will be on view to the whole congregation.

The second reason is because the groom's wedding party often like to write the words "Save Me" or "Help Me" on the soles of the shoes, which is funny in hindsight but might not be very funny to a nervous bride on the day.

"Keep some sort of stain remover nearby"

You do not want any nightmare situations involving red lipstick or red wine getting on the wedding dress. A mini stain remover will be a godsend when you need it.

"Stuff tissues and lip gloss in your bouquet"

This will depend very much on the type of bouquet you have and how well you can hide tissues/lipgloss, but it's very handy if you need to wipe away a tear or touch up the lippy without making a fuss.

"Scratch your shoes on gravel"

The last thing you want to do is to trip when you're going up the aisle. Could you imagine? This can be easily avoided if you make sure the soles of your shoes are worn in and have lots of grip.

"Keep a snack handy during the photographs"

While your wedding guests are off enjoying the finger food you carefully selected, you will more than likely miss it because you'll be getting your photos taken. Make sure to stock up on snacks, even a protein bar, to keep your energy levels up.
