A US woman who was once told she would never be able to have children has welcomed a baby that has broken hospital records.
Joy Buckley from New York gave birth to her daughter Harper, who weighed in a whopping 15 pounds and 5 ounces (6.9kg).
Arnot Odgen Medical Center believe the 23.2 inches long baby is the largest on hospital record, and could potentially be the largest in New York state record.
“I knew she was gonna be big, but I didn’t anticipate no 15-pound baby,” said Joy.
It took three doctors, a medical 'vacuum' and a C-section to deliver Harper. Joy described the birth as "pretty violent" when Harper got stuck under her ribcage.
"I felt like I was hit by two tractor-trailers," she told the New York Times.
Joy and her husband, Norman, struggled with infertility for seven years and were told they had less than a 15 per cent chance of becoming pregnant.
Harper is now the couple's third child. Her second child, a boy, weighed 11 pounds (5kg) when he was born two years ago. Their first daughter is adopted.
“We are so in awe of her,” she said of her newest addition. “We’ve been able to hold her. She’s got a pretty happy demeanor.”
