Family is important for most us, and a lot of people thrive off of family time. But sometimes when life gets a little hectic, it can be hard to keep in touch with family.
But new studies have proven that by hanging out with your parents regularly, you can increase their life span!
The news comes after an article published in DoYouRemember revealed that researchers at the University of California, San Francisco found loneliness played a large role in the decline so often associated with old age.
The study followed 1,600 adults, with an average age of 71 — despite controlling for socioeconomic status and health, the lonely consistently held higher mortality rates.
Nearly 23% of lonely participants died within six years of the study, as opposed to only 14% of those that reported adequate companionship.”
Moreover, Scary Mommy reported that another study, from the Public Library of Science, said that elderly people who don’t have enough social interaction are twice as likely to die prematurely.
Scary Mommy put it in perspective, that the increased mortality risk is comparable to the death risk of smoking. Loneliness is approximately twice as dangerous as obesity.
So get on the phone, or go and visit your parents! Not only will they love it, but it will help them stick around just that little longer ❤️️.
