The beautiful three-legged dog that captured the hearts of Kiwis in the Trustpower ad has sadly died.
Blue, who was 15 1/2 years old, starred in a Trustpower ad featuring a widowed man with one leg who chose to adopt Blue's character from an animal shelter. The ad melted the hearts of Kiwis and was dubbed one of the "sweetest ads" for 2021.
Sadly Blue, who suffered from Grade 2 osteosarcoma, passed away yesterday in the arms of his owner.
"Blue gave so many people joy, from watching him compete in agility, as an SPCA Outreach dog, demanding tummy rubs, to his Trustpower tv advert," Blue's owner posted on Instagram.
"My world suddenly feels so very empty, but after a trip to the beach, letting him go with his dignity, under the shade of his favourite tree, listening to the birds and cicadas, smelling the all those wonderful rural smells, was my last gift to give him."
RIP to Blue, and our thoughts go out to Blue's family. We're going to shed a few more tears next time we see him on our TV screens.
