Boss in hot water after 'dumb, illegal' punishment for staff late to work

"Do you want to lose employees? Because that’s how you lose employees."

If you're feeling the mid-week slump at work and your boss is getting on your nerves - this should make you feel better.

A Redditor shared what looked to be a notice from management at the "worst place they ever worked", informing staff members of a ridiculously unfair punishment for anyone who was even one minute late to work.

"New office rule," the sign read. "For every minute you are late for work, you will be required to work for 10 minutes after 6pm.

"For example. If you arrive at 10.02am, you will have to stay an extra 20 minutes until 6:20pm. Thanks."

I mean, there are so many things to unpack here, but that passive-aggressive 'thanks' really tops it off.

The post quickly went viral and the comments section popped off with messages from people who were outraged at the demands made by the head honcho.

"Damn so if I'm stuck in traffic and am late 30 minutes, they want me to stay an extra 5 f*cking hours? Hell to the motherf*cking no," said another.

Others thought the rule should go both ways, allowing workers who arrive early to scoot out the door before 6.

"If you show up at 9:58 do you get to leave at 5:40?"

Lots of the comments pointed out that the rule was probably illegal, or that the company would be forced to pay their staff overtime.

Whatever the case, makes your boss look kind of like an angel, right?
