This secret 'Lion King' fact about Scar's backstory is blowing our minds

The fact comes from the Lion King novel series, which we didn't even know exists!

The 'Lion King' is one of Disney’s most adored movies, everyone loves the adventure of Simba getting revenge on his evil uncle Scar. However, this crazy fact about Scar does make us feel a little sorry for him.

The fact comes from a Tumblr post that has been circulating online again. Strap in, beacuse it is a wild one!

Scar is nicknamed Scar because he has a scar over his eye (obviously).

According to the 'Lion King' novel series (yup there’s a 'Lion King' novel series!) he got that scar after a confrontation involving a wildebeest and his brother Mufasa.

He requested to go by ‘Scar’ because he’s a bit of a drama king. But what was he called before Scar?

Well, according to the same novel series, and the post circulating online, Scar was given the name ‘Taka’ at birth. In Swahili, the native language of Scar and his family's homeland, Taka translates to waste/garbage.

So Scar’s actual name is literally garbage! Poor guy.

What makes this fact even sadder is that Mufasa translates to ‘king’. So, Scar’s parents named him 'garbage' and his brother 'king'.

When you know this it makes it pretty obvious why Scar wanted to kill his whole family and take over the world - from day dot he was called trash!

This does make us feel a bit of sympathy for Scar, but it still doesn’t excuse trying to kill your brother and his child by creating a stampede of buffalo, and when that doesn’t work, dropping your brother off a cliff, killing him, gaslighting his young child into thinking it was his fault and banishing him to the jungle, and then taking over your home town with an army of hyenas, ruining the town and eventually setting it on fire.

We hope you enjoyed this fun (?) fact about one of the best animated movies of all time. We’re definitely going to bring it up as a bit of trivia at the next dinner party.
