Ahead of being the opening act for Mel C in Auckland this Friday night, DJ Dargavillain (Lana) made her debut at Ryman Retirement Village.

There were a few nerves early on when one of them requested Beethoven, and Lana replied “I haven't practiced that”

After being introduced to the crowd by Adam, DJ Dargavillain received a warm welcome and kicked off her set with 'Tom Jones, Sex Bomb', which gained a few people off their seats dancing and clapping along.

As DJ Daragavillain transitioned through tunes from Kenny Rodgers, ABBA and Neil Diamond, the majority of the room had found themselves on the dance floor, surprising themselves with their ability.

Toward the end of the set, Adam started a conga line bringing many people together for one last dance.

Following the performance, the residents gave their feedback with one saying ‘It was excellent - straightforward and beautiful” while another  “Well I didn't think I would be dancing at 97, I have danced nearly all my life”

At the end of the performance, resident Ken spoke on behalf of the rest home expressing gratitude.

“You’ve reminded us we can still have fun, you’ve given us plenty of smiles”

Reflecting on the heartwarming experience on air Lana said “The way that they, the residents were there so early, with their walkers and their friends and partners. I think we need to go back every week."
