Lorde performs ‘Magnets’ at Coachella to rave reviews

Kiwi singer Lorde made a surprise visit to the Coachella stage yesterday performing one song during Disclosure’s set at the annual Palm Springs music festival.

The British electronic duo brought Lorde onstage to perform their 2015 hit ‘Magnets’, which became the group’s most successful hit in Australia and New Zealand peaking at No. 14 and No. 2 respectively.

Later, Sam Smith joined Disclosure on stage following Lorde’s guest spot. Scout’s Hannah Rogers, who was at Coachella, said Lorde's performance was well received by the huge crowd, and a big unexpected surprise.

Rogers said: "Lorde did just the one song, and everyone clapped and went wild. It was so awesome to see a Kiwi there. No one had expected Lorde to be singing at Coachella, so it was a bonus for everyone.

She added: “The reception for Lorde was amazing. Everyone was surprised to see her come out. Many people were visibly thrilled to see her on stage. One American I overheard, said ‘OMG it’s Lorde!’ That was the general response when the crowd watched Lorde perform.”

"She was sensational."

The 18-year-old Kiwi, who is living in Los Angeles while she completes her long-awaited second album, is being chaperoned by her mother, Sonja, who shared her excitement. Lorde attended the Palm Springs music festival with fellow pop star Taylor Swift, her brother Austin, and musician and songwriter Jack Antonoff who has collaborated with both singers.

The Kiwi was clearly enjoying the party atmosphere, posting a variety of photos and videos to her social media platforms, including a golf cart ride with Swift and co to the VIP area.
