Married At First Sight Australia's Nic Jovanovic was just 24 when he was forced to undergo surgery on his stomach to have a tumour removed and be told he would no longer be able to have kids without IVF.
And now, less than five years later, Nic has revealed that his cancer has returned.
Speaking to Australia's 9Honey, Nic said "I was fit, I train, I eat well, I don't do drugs, I hardly drink, I was the epitome of healthy... Then to hear that [word], your whole world just turned upside down."
Nic opening up to his Married At First Sight Australia bride Cyrell about what he had been through on his cancer journey was one of the defining moments of the turbulent series. He, nor anyone else, thought that he would have to face that battle again.
"I just thought, 'Surely not?'" Nic told publication TV WEEK. "I was having a shower at Christmas and found a little lump on my testicle. I didn't want to take any risks – especially after what I'd been through already – so I booked in and was referred to a specialist."
It was confirmed that Nic's lump was cancerous. And in February, just days after the show's reunion episodes were filmed, Nic underwent surgery to remove the testicle. Since then he's had two rounds of chemotherapy.
"I wouldn't wish it upon anyone," he says. "It's exhausting. You don't want to get it once – let alone twice.
"But there's always somebody worse off out there. If I can help and get one person to go and get checked and save their life, then job done."
