The Jetstar airline have today made the shock announcement that they are pulling out of regional airports across the country at the end of November.
The cancellations are between Auckland and Nelson, Napier, New Plymouth and Palmerston North, as well as Nelson and Wellington.
Those with bookings on the regional services after November 30 will be offered options including a full refund.
"The New Zealand regional market is facing some headwinds, with softer demand and higher fuel costs and we don’t see the outlook changing any time soon." said Gareth Evans, Jetstar's CEO.
"As a result, we’re announcing a proposal today to end our regional services, with the final flights on 30 November this year,"
"We understand there will be disappointment in regional centres at today’s announcement."
"Our regional customers have been very loyal and we’d like to thank them, and all our regional stakeholders including airports, local councils, businesses and tourism organisations, for their support."
There is more info about the cancellations on the Jetstar website.
