Spice Girl Mel B has shed some light on some behind the scenes secrets.

Without out a doubt one of the most popular outfits from the Spice Girls era was the Union Jack Dress that Geri Horner (Ginger Spice) wore at the 1997 Brit Awards. Mel B revealed during a recent UK TV appearance that the iconic dress was actually made out of a kitchen tea towel - who would've thought!?

"I was always doing something with my outfits or sticking on sequins or making it a bit jazzy," Scary Spice started by saying.

"She actually made it," she went on to say in refrence to Geri's dress. "It was a plain black dress but Victoria [Beckham] always wore the plain black dress. But she found a Union Jack tea towel and stuck it on."

Ginger Spice herself has also spoken about the dress in an interview with Vogue.

"That picture of me in the dress was on the front page of every newspaper," she said.

"That dress really became the identity of what girl power stood for. People would wear their own version of it. Suddenly you started seeing the British flag on a lot of fashion."

So next time you need a fancy dress outfit, it might pay to have a look in the kitchen cupboard!
