It was just last week that Dr. Ashley Bloomfield was announced as a finalist for the prestigious NZ TV Personality of the Year award.
The finals for the award saw him up against some of the biggest names in Kiwi television, the likes of Patrick Gower, Hilary Barry and Kanoa Lloyd, all vying for the public vote to take out the award.
However, despite Dr Bloomfield being a fixture on our TV screens for months, he has made the call to withdraw from the running of the award.
In a statement from his office, published by TVNZ, Dr Bloomfield said he was "humbled" by the nomination.
"Given his primary role as a public servant and not a TV personality, he would like the step aside from being considered for the award."
NZTV Awards officials say they support his decision to withdraw and thanked him, the Ministry of Health and frontline workers during the Covid-19 fight.
