Ed Sheeran has revealed that following the birth of his daughter Lyra, he almost gave up music for good.
He announced a break from music back in 2019, originally with intent to come back eventually, but after becoming a father, he had second thoughts.
“I stopped playing music for a bit. And music is entirely me as a person. Then I had my daughter and I was like: ‘Right, that’s it. This is me. I am probably just going to be a dad. I am not going to play music anymore'”, he told SiriusXM.
The singer said he found himself "getting really sad" and feeling like he had "zero purpose" despite being a father. And thankfully, after putting a lot of "time and effort" into being a father, he realised it would be best for him to return to music.
Sheeran added that he "slowly got back into music" and his creative process started "flowing" quite naturally.
“Then I was suddenly like: it is more important for my daughter to grow up knowing that her parents have a work ethic?”, he said.
I slowly got back into music that way and the creative process started flowing again.
We're so stoked that Ed has returned to music with his single 'Bad Habits', from his upcoming album - we can't wait to hear it!
