Colombian singer Shakira is accused of failing to pay up NZ$22.6 million in tax income between 2012 and 2014, a period in which Shakira's representatives say she did not live in Spain.
She rejected a settlement offered by the prosecutor earlier in the week and is now a step closer to going to trial, her media team said on Wednesday.
Prosecutors in Spain have now called for an eight-year prison sentence and a NZ$38.7 million fine after claims the popstar bought a house in Barcelona in 2012 and didn't pay taxes on the property purchase..
In a statement to 'People' reps for Shakira said she is confident of her innocence and sees the case as a 'violation of her rights'.
