The trailer for new Dame Valerie Adams 'More Than Gold' doco is out and it looks legendary

The most "honest and vulnerable" story about one of the greatest athletes NZ has ever seen!

New Zealand/Tongan sporting superstar, five-time Olympian, two-time gold medal medallist and all-round sporting icon Dame Valerie Adams has a new documentary on the way.

The trailer for the documentary, called ‘More Than Gold’ has just been released, and we are so looking forward to watching it.

The caption tells us that in the documentary Valerie will be opening up and giving her fans around NZ and the world a good look at what it's like at being a world-class athlete, as well as, “a mother, a daughter, a sister, and a survivor.”

“Many New Zealanders believe they know Dame Valerie Adams,” the caption reads. “But in a sports documentary like no other, she shares her story with honesty and vulnerability - exposing herself in a way few sportspeople dare.”

“'More Than Gold' speaks to anyone who has faced hardship, lost someone they loved, or held onto a dream.”

This really does sound like an incredible story!

Valerie had a unique upbringing, being one of 18 children her father had. Her youngest sibling is one of New Zealand’s best-ever basketball players, Steven Adams, who appears in the trailer.

Adams absolutely dominated the world shot-put scene for almost a decade. From 2006 - 2014 she won fifteen straight international tournaments, including two Olympic gold medals and three Commonwealth Games gold medals.

At last year’s Olympic Games she managed to take home bronze at the age of 36, which is not a bad effort at all.

Cheering Valerie on during the Olympic and Commonwealth games is a fond memory I, and I’m sure many other people and families across NZ and Tonga have, so a full-length documentary about her life is something I will definitely be watching.

‘More Than Gold’ will be released in NZ cinemas on October 20.
