New Zealand hockey player Gemma McCaw has publicly responded to someone who criticised her parenting.
Over the weekend Gemma posted a photo of her three kids - Charlotte, 3, Grace, 2, and Ella, 7 weeks - out on a walk and bike ride in the rain. In text alongside the photo, she said that someone criticised her for taking the kids out in such weather and then explained that decision.
“To the person this morning who criticised me for being out in the pouring rain with my kids,” she wrote. “Please know I‘m just a mum trying to do my best by getting some fresh air on a day like this.”
“They were all safe and warm & despite Charlotte not wanting to wear her jacket, I had it under the pram.”

In a follow-up story, she expressed gratitude to those who have sent kind words to her and shared some words of motivation herself.
“A huge thank you to all those people who constantly support other Mums!” she said.
“Never underestimate a smile, kind word, or gesture. As Mums, we are hard enough on ourselves already, so wo when people are kind it makes a huge difference!”
“Fresh air + rain is good for the soul and I’ll always choose to take my kids outside to be in nature. To anyone else out there doing and giving your best, I see you, and what I’ve learnt today is don’t let anyone rain on your parade.”

Gemma’s husband, All-Black legend Richie McCaw, recently made headlines after he admitted he had to google what the dress code at the King’s Coronation meant.
Gemma shared a video of Richie putting the suit he ended up wearing to the big day, alongside the caption: “Finding an outfit fit for the King.”
