Paulina Porizkova, the 58-year-old former supermodel, has long showcased her bikini body on social media.
From the age of 15, her modelling career has seen her across magazines, films, TV, and music videos. While she continues to love sharing snaps with her online followers, trolls have been trying to tear down her body positivity - labelling her a 'desperate grandma'.
While most responses have been positive, she has acknowledged these hurtful comments, stating that despite them, she feels confident in her appearance for her age.
“They’re like, ‘You’re so desperate,’ or ‘It’s time to retire, grandma.’ But I looked at those pictures of myself without makeup or without clothes, and I just thought, ‘Hey, I look pretty good for my age.’”
She emphasizes the importance of acknowledging one's true value and combating the societal pressure to conform to conventional standards of beauty.
In an interview with 60 Minutes Australia, she discussed society's tendency to suppress women's sexuality as they age. She mentioned facing criticism, with people claiming she's "too old" or "embarrassing her children."
"I was being controversial, but merely the fact that I was now in my 50s made it risqué."
For her 58th birthday, she celebrated authenticity, expressing hope and gratitude for her journey so far.
“I begin 58 with nothing but sunshine and a smile.
And the hope that the best is yet to come, and nothing but gratitude for all that has brought me here to the now.”
Despite the negativity she has experienced towards her age, Porizkova remains resilient, championing body positivity and self-love.
She encourages women to break free from these constraints and confidently declare their visibility at any age.
