'Outlander' TV stars spotted touring Invercargill

New Zealand - the Scotland of the Southern Hemisphere?
4 February 2022 4:39PM

Don't worry, Aotearoa hasn't travelled back in time to the 1700s. But two stars of the hit TV show 'Outlander' have been spotted travelling Invercargill.

Co-stars Sam Heughan (who plays Jamie Fraser) and Graham McTavish (who plays Dougal Mackenzie and lives in NZ) were spotted at the Stellar Kai food truck in Invercargill's Kelvin Street this week.

The Stellar Kai Facebook page posted a photo of the two men posing by the food truck, with the owner disappointed that they weren't there for the lunch service that day.

"I'm beyond excited," the caption read in full caps. "Look who had lunch at Stellar today and I wasn't there!"

The two Scottish actors are said to be travelling the country for their other TV series 'Men in Kilts: A Roadtrip with Sam and Graham.'

The first season was shot in Scotland, and their second season in NZ is said to be focused on "following the footsteps of the Scottish immigrants that went there in the early 19th century". Their aim is to "find all things Kiwi" and work out why New Zealand is the "Scotland of the southern hemisphere".

Both 'Outlander' and 'Men in Kilts' season one are both available to watch on Neon in New Zealand.
