October 11th marked the 'International Day of the Girl' and to celebrate, Barbie announced the Official Role Model in New Zealand.

Barbie announced it in their style by launching the winner's one-of-a-kind Barbie doll.

The company honoured more than 12 female role models by releasing their barbie dolls to remind young girls that they can be anything.

Brianne West, founder and CEO of New Zealand brand Ethique was honoured and recognized by Barbie Role Models for her incredible work as an environmentalist and entrepreneur.

Her brand Ethique is the world's first zero-waste beauty brand.

“I started Ethique out of frustration for the abhorrent amount of waste created by the cosmetics industry, and in particular, the amount of plastic and waste created by our bathroom essentials. I figured out that up to 95% of your bottle of conditioner is made up of water - which is just ridiculous considering you have water in your bathroom!" Brianne wrote on her website stating how she started her company.

"I figured that switching to a solid product would be the answer not only to the water waste issue, but also plastic waste," she added.

From skin-care to household products, you can find anything at Ethique.

"Mattel is proud that Barbie is partnering with women entrepreneurs and role models to inspire the next generation of leaders and dreamers," the official statement said.

“It’s a real honour, and to be alongside women around the world doing incredible things. Also, having role models across all industries that are as diverse as the real world is, is enormously important," Brianne said after being named the 2022 Official Barbie Role Model.

“We know that children are inspired by what they see around them, which is why it’s so important for young girls to see themselves reflected in role models who’ve daringly pushed past roadblocks and overcome the Dream Gap to become the brave women they are today,” said Lisa McKnight, Senior Vice President and Global Head of Barbie and Dolls, Mattel.

“We’re proud to honor global trailblazing women to help empower the next generation of female leaders by sharing their stories.”

Amazing work team Barbie and Brianne!
