A Kiwi bartender has created a 'Tayto-Tini' using Graham Norton's vodka and one starchy vege

"Share the taste, but also the feeling you get when you're eating a roast potato."

With Christmas well on its way, we’re all preparing for our festive feeds and drinks for the holiday, but what if I told you that you can have both in one?

Introducing the ‘Tayto-Tini’!

The drink inspired by talk show presenter Graham Norton and his GN Vodka, including the ingredient we didn't realise we needed - potato.

A typical Xmas lunch will include an array of potatoes, whether they're baked, mashed, roasted or even mixed with bread in the stuffing, so is it really that far-fetched to include it in our holiday drinks? Maybe, but then again, vodka can be made from the starchy vege.

Dave Ryan, an Auckland-based bartender and self-proclaimed tayto lover, spent four weeks crafting the inventive new cocktail, which combines the unusual pairing of vodka and potato.

To "share the taste but also the feeling you get when you're eating a roast potato," Dave made the drink with GN Vodka, house-made rosemary, thyme, and sage cordial, mixed with a bit of herb salt, and completed with a splash of olive lemonade. He then tops the cocktail off with a salted parched potato garnish.

Dave, who regularly enjoys the starchy vege believes “Irish potatoes are the best in the world. So I knew this vodka was going to be something special. And it didn’t disappoint”.

Rob Cameron, co-founder and Winemaker of Invivo & Co, says: “When we decided to make the Vodka with Graham, I could never have imagined that it would inspire a potato-based cocktail like the Tayto-Tini, the drink no one might have asked for but everyone will realise they need.”

Black Pineapple will sell limited edition cocktail kit boxes containing everything you need to make the Tayto-Tini from December 7th.
