Jason Momoa welcomed to NZ to film new TV show, Kiwis wanted as extras

"Excellent kickstart to the Yenedakine Chief of War international production in Aotearoa.”

Jason Momoa has arrived back in New Zealand, welcomed by a pōwhiri at an Auckland marae as he prepares to film scenes for his upcoming Apple TV series ‘Yenedakine’.

The show is being filmed in locations across New Zealand until June 2023 and will focus on Momoa's character who is a warrior chief in the Hawaiian Kingdom at the turn of the 18th century.

Photos posted to Instagram by Ngā Aho Whakaari, show Momoa and the 'Yenedakine' crew being greeted to kickstart their international filming journey.

Ngā Aho Whakaari wrote alongside the series of images: “Ko te whakapapa te whakautu. Excellent kickstart to the Yenedakine Chief of War international production in Aotearoa.”

“As the oldest storytellers in Aotearoa, being & rolling Indigenous means stories shared in these spaces go way back and connect us with strength and support to go forward. It’s our superpower, never to be forgotten!”

Other snaps posted by Ngakirikiri Kershaw, show Momoa posing for pics with fans.

Working alongside Jason Momoa would be the ultimate dream come true for a lot of us, but now it’s looking like a possibility.

Talent company InTouch has been searching for Kiwi extras to appear in a new AppleTV series featuring Momoa and it’s being filmed right here in Aotearoa.

Unfortunately, if you were hoping to play any love interest, you’re out of luck because InTouch talent agency has been looking for “Hawaiian-looking men” aged between 18 - 50-years-old.

Within 24 hours all the warrior's roles had been cast, but  Hughes added that there would be other roles in the products available.

The agency is now recruiting male children aged 12 and over for a day of shooting in the Coromandel region,  Talent agent Janey Hughes told Stuff.

So, if you know someone who looks the part, give them a heads up, because that claim to fame will earn you some massive bragging rights.
