A day at the movies to raise money for the victims of Clyclone Gabrielle has been announced to hit big screens up and down the motu next weekend.
Celebrate Maori filmmaking on March 12 at Silky Otter Cinema locations in Ōrākei and Ponsonby in Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland, Wigram in Ōtautahi/Christchurch, and Richmond in Whakatū/Nelson.
‘Made by Māori: A Day at the Movies’ will feature many of our well-known and much-loved films:

‘Hunt For The Wilderpeople’
‘Moana Reo Māori’
‘The Lion King Reo Māori’
‘Frozen Reo Māori’
With 100% of proceeds will be donated to help the communities Te Tairāwhiti & Ngāti Kahungunu it’s definitely a day to get amongst and support not only our iconic Māori films but come together yet again as a community.

Taika Waititi has shown his support in Instagram posts along with a message encouraging Kiwis to do what they can to help.
“Aotearoa! Kia ora whānau. As you probably know, a lot of our areas on the coast were hit HARD by that b****, Cyclone Gabrielle. A lot of people lost everything and here's something we can do to help.”
Taika also posted images of the destruction caused by the devastating cyclone.
