'Aroha to you': Cyndi Lauper visits Dunedin bar, leaving super-fan owner speechless

"We got a call from the manager saying Cyndi is going to come in now to meet you..."

Cyndi Lauper has been spotted checking out a local Kiwi bar as she enjoys exploring what New Zealand has to offer ahead of her performance at Rod Stewart's show at Dunedin’s Forsyth Barr Stadium tonight.

Woof! bar placed a sign in their front window that read "nau mai, haere mai Cyndi" on the off-chance that the singer would see it.

Co-director Dudley Benson spoke to the Otago Daily Times to confirm that Cyndi noticed the sign while driving through the city yesterday, but didn't believe it was directed toward her.

"Surely they can’t mean me,’’ Cyndi questioned when she first spotted the sign, according to Dudley.

He explained: ‘‘An hour later we got a call from the manager saying Cyndi is going to come in now to meet you."

Woof! co-director Josh Thomas has been a longtime superfan of Cyndi’s and didn’t skip out on the opportunity to meet his idol when they found out she was in the city.

In a post to Instagram, the bar wrote: “Josh got to meet his teen idol and show her his CYNDI journal that he made when he was 14. It was beautiful!”

“Aroha to you Cyndi, for all your phenomenal music, and work for women and rainbow people around the world,” the post ended.

According to Dudley Lauper particularly loved looking at the particular elements of her musical catalogue in Josh’s journals.

“She’s such an artist."

The bar also caught Cyndi’s eye for having a gravestone embossed with ‘‘Trump’’ written along the front.

Cyndi wanted to see it and Dudley can confirm ‘‘she loved it’’.

The former US President and Lauper appeared on the reality TV show ‘The Celebrity Apprentice’ back in 2010.

The bar is open from 3pm today for concertgoers to enjoy a beverage ahead of tonight's show.
