Kiwis donate to grandma's massive bill after she heroically stopped shop burglary

"We love you Rammy Granny, you inspire us with your courage and no-nonsense attitude. Hope you're ok after that…”

A Kiwi grandma - who chose to remain anonymous has been praised for her recent heroic act of stopping a burglary.

She was out for a morning coffee in Cambridge when she saw crime was afoot. Ram raiders had hit the local Spark store and tried to make a run for the getaway car in waiting.

The woman told herself, “It’s not happening", and immediately made a beeline for the getaway vehicle. She crashed into the ram raiders' ride whilst damaging her own car too.

Right after crashing into the getaway car, the thieves "all came out of Spark like bees from a hive".

"I tried to reverse but couldn't, so I hit the car hard again" the woman said.

The thieves dropped their loot and hopped into their freshly wrecked vehicle.

The woman then followed them while blaring her horn.

The cops would have been called to the location, but her phone had fallen down the side of the couch the night before.

Once the ram raiders were out of sight, she drove back to the scene of the crime, quickly realizing that her husband will not be happy about the state of the car.

“He arrived and said it was worth it,” Cambridge’s new superhero said. “I’m a grandmother and I work with youth; I do want people to know I’m not a vigilante.”

Cambridge News reports that the ram raiders were eventually tracked down.

Her courage to do that was immensely appreciated by everyone. However, that did come with a sacrifice. She has now been faced with a massive repair bill of around $10,000 to fix the damages done to her car, or as we like to call it, the gran-mobile.

A Givealittle page has been created by the Hamilton and Districts Crime Information Group.

"Everyone has heard about the nana who drove her car into the group of youths robbing a store," the Givealitte page reads.

THIS HAS INSPIRED US TO HELP RAISE MONEY FOR HER TO COVER THE COSTS OF THE DAMAGE TO HER CAR WHICH IF INSURANCE DOESN'T COME TO THE PARTY COULD BE OVER $10,000 WORTH.

Since the page was created on April 15, a whopping $16,570 has been donated from 656 generous donors.

One donor wrote in support of the gran-raider: “We love you Rammy Granny, you inspire us with your courage and no-nonsense attitude. Hope you're ok after that…”

PERHAPS YOUR NEXT CAR SHOULD HAVE BULL BARS AND A ROLLER CAGE FOR YOU. HOPE YOU GET A GOOD MASSAGE AS WELL

According to an update on the Givealittle page, the group is just waiting for Nana to confirm that her insurance won’t be covering the damage before the money goes her way, although it is "not looking positive" at this stage.

It’s great to see us Kwis rally together in support of the super nan, and we are so glad she's not hurt after her courageous act.
