Couples who drink together are in happier relationships

Share a wine - your relationship could be better for it!

A ten year study has found couples who have the same drinking habits tend to be happier than those where only one partner drinks.

The amount people consumed was less important than whether or not both partners had the same habit to drink (or not drink!)

Women in particular were found to be more dissatisfied if they drink and their husband didn’t.

The study's author, Dr Kira Birditt, of the University of Michigan, said her research didn’t suggest that people should be drinking more or that they should be changing the way they drink.

“We're not sure why this is happening, but it could be that couples that do more leisure time activities together have better marital quality.”

So drinking may not be the only reason a couple gets along well - but partners influence each other, especially when they are spending more time with each other.
